After struggling with a hosed plugin that necessitated rebuilding the entire site, a new "now with buggy watermarks" version of Aperture 3, a flaky 3rd party watermarking tool that wipes out the EXIF data from it's images, and diddling with a PERL script utility to fix the EXIF stuff, Marks' first shots from Jamaica are finally up.

Here's the trip to Jamaica.

Major Site Update

Well, it had to happen sooner or later. As is the case with all software, eventually a bug will surface. And so it was with a plugin I was using to generate the festivals pages on the site.

This particularly plugin had a rather peculiar memory leak, which resulted in the host authoring application "looking" like it was saving when in fact it wasn't saving any changes at all, and was cheerfully overwriting the backups for the site thinking the saves were valid. They weren't, and as a result, after about 10 changes, the entire sites project file was corrupted, including all the redundant backups.

As a result?

I had to recreate the ENTIRE site from scratch. Hundreds of pages, thousands of links. Yeah. Not a lot of fun.

The good news is since I had to redo the entire thing, I took advantage of the opportunity (if one can call it that), and did a bit of a facelift on the whole site.

We hope you like the new look at feel.

While the vast majority of what we post here is music coverage, occasionally, life has a way of forcing us to look at other things.

And this was one of them.

I debated for a while as to whether to post this or not, but when a friend called while dealing with the exact same situation I was in just a few weeks ago, it became apparent that the time had come to post this story.

It's a bit of a read, but I hope a worthwhile one.
